my baby is growing up

So I think my first sadness over a milestone has come. I’ve tried to cherish every moment with Elliot and therefore am usually happy when he reaches a new level and rarely do I lament his growing up. But last week something took me by suprise and I must say it’s made me a bit sad realizing what a big boy he’s turning into.

I was having some diaper issues (my fault, and now resolved) but he’d leaked thru onto his crib mattress twice and I didn’t have time to wash before his bedtime. We’ve been lent a toddler bed so we decided we might as well give it a go since we had no more sheets for the crib. The bed had been in his room a while but we hadn’t pushed the issue, I’d actually resolved to wait for a few months after Elizabeth arrives to transfer him. However we did it, and ever since he’s chosen to sleep in it - and to our great suprise he sleeps well in it - doesn’t get up in the middle of naps or after we put him down at night. He does get out of bed after a nap or in the morning (though still will lay there for a while talking to himself first). He can’t open his door so as soon as I hear him trying I go to greet him. It’s really cute to see him lying there asleep - not in a crib. But also sad somehow. After the first night I had intended to put him back in  his crib for his nap the next day - I was just not ready for this! However I gave him the choice at naptime and he pointed to the bed so the bed it is. Its the first among many steps I’m sure he’ll suprise me with and I will resolve to enjoy watching him grow up.

How bad is it that our favorite word to hear him say is “fries” the minute he sees a McD’s bag he starts calling out “Fries..Fries…Fries” progressively louder…I promise he get’s good nutrition…most of the time ;-)
